Key Steps in Measuring Flooring:

  1. Measure the Length & Width (in millimeters) of the room.
  2. Convert to Square Meters:
    • Multiply length × width (in mm) = area in square mm.
    • Convert to square meters by dividing by 1,000,000.
  3. Account for Irregular Shapes:
    • Divide the space into smaller rectangles.
    • Measure each section separately and add up the areas.
  4. Add Wastage:
    • Flooring materials often require an extra 10% for cuts and spares.

How to measure L shape rooms:

  • Divide the Room: Split the L-shape into two rectangles.
  • Measure: Record the length and width of each rectangle in millimeters (mm).
  • Calculate Area:
    • For each rectangle, multiply length by width (mm × mm = mm²).
    • Add both areas together.
  • Convert to m²: Divide the total mm² by 1,000,000 (since 1 m² = 1,000,000 mm²).

Example:

  • Rectangle 1: 4000 mm × 3000 mm = 12,000,000 mm²
  • Rectangle 2: 2000 mm × 3000 mm = 6,000,000 mm²
  • Total Area: 12,000,000 mm² + 6,000,000 mm² = 18,000,000 mm²
  • In m²: 18,000,000 ÷ 1,000,000 = 18 m²
